Mallacoota is known as the heart of the wilderness coast - an amazing 100km stretch of pristine coastline of oustanding beauty & significance.
A birdwatchers and photographers paradise!
Framed by UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, Croajingolong National Park and situated on the edge of a massive tidal lake system, Mallacoota is a truly special place to unwind and get back to nature.
Mallacoota made international news with devastating bushfires fires that ripped through much of Victoria and NSW in 2020. The town centre and immediate foreshore area was spared but there's still plenty of scars to be seen on the landscape.
The community and region are amazingly resilient and recovery is well underway with good solid rain assisting the process and many helping hands working on the rebuild.
Spectacular views are still around every corner and there's so much to explore from rocky headlands, sandy tidal estuaries, huge sand dunes, and freshwater lakes to temperate rainforest, freshwater lakes, mountains & waterfalls.
Mallacoota Inlet, consisting of 2 large lakes formed by the runoff from the Genoa and Wallagaraugh Rivers, features approximately 320km of shoreline offering lots of opportunities for boating, canoeing, kayaking, exploring, fishing & swimming.
No problem if you don't have a boat as there are numerous short and long walks to take you to secluded spots dotted around the waterway.
Croajingolong National Park is incredibly diverse with 306 varieties of birdlife, over 1500 plant species, 52 mammal species and a broad range of flora, including over 90 kinds of orchids, some of which do not exist anywhere else in the world.
The charming township of Mallacoota offers 2 supermarkets, a pub, hardware store, ATM and banking, post office plus a few little shops to browse and several cafes & eateries, although some do close over the winter period.
A monthly market is also held right in town and features local produce, handmade items, as well as tasty treats and gifts.
Mallacoota is a friendly, laid back, small town in the best kind of way!
